The Memory of Marlon Brando offers a lesson in humanity and anti-racism

Marlon Brando - AWRAQ Community Papers
3/27/1972 .. Marlon Brando offers a lesson in humanity and anti-racism

Who is Marlon Brando who refused to receive an Oscar:

American actor, director and activist, born on April 3, 1924, is referred to by critics and the movie public as the greatest and most inspiring actor ever.

Marlon, a cultural icon, is best known for his two Oscar winners: Terry Malloy in 1954 on the Waterfront, and Vito Corleone in The Godfather 1972.

Brando was also a community activist and supporter of many causes. In the 1960s, Brando made contributions to ending racial discrimination and social injustice in partnership with the African American Civil Rights Movement, in addition to his support for all Indian-American movements (Indians), as well as his positions in support of the Palestinian cause.

Brando is ranked fourth by the American Film Institute on its list of 100 years and 100 stars among male movie stars who appeared before 1959.

He was one of only three professional actors, along with (Sir Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe), that Time magazine famously placed them on its list of the most important people of the century.

Marlon Brando died of lung failure on June 1, 2004, at the age of 80.

A glimpse of The Godfather, Marlon Brando's most important films:

It is a 1972 American crime movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola, based on the novel of the same name by Mario Puzo.

The film stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino as leaders of one of New York's most powerful crime families.

The story extends for years between (1945-1955), as it tells about the beginnings of Vito Corleone as a member of the mafia in New York until he became the leader of one of the most powerful mafia families, and then the story follows the receipt of Michael Corleone, son of Vito family after the death of the godfather Vito, and he turns from a normal person to a leader A ruthless mafia.

What is the Oscar:

It is one of the most important (if not) cinematic award in the world presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the United States of America.

It is competing for all those working in cinematic films (directors, authors, producers, photographers, composers ...) and not only the actors, and currently it is not limited to American films only, as it is primarily interested in long films and to a lesser extent short or documentaries.

Who are the American Indians:

Ancient Americans or Native Americans, and sometimes in the name of American Indians, are names given to the ethnicities of the indigenous peoples of North and South America before the era of the discoverer Christopher Columbus (pre-Columbian era), and also given to the dynasties that descended from them.

And their number is now about 48 million distributed in all countries of the Americas, most of them in (Peru, Mexico, Bolivia, Guatemala, Ecuador, the United States, Colombia, Canada), in the United States alone there are approximately (2.5) million people.

The numbers of these peoples decreased due to exposure to infectious diseases, displacement, and wars as a result of the European colonization of the Americas and the injustice and tyranny that followed against them.

Reason for rejecting the Academy Award:

At the Oscars in 1972, Marlon Marlon Brando refused to receive an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the film The Godfather (Vito Corleone), in protest against the mistreatment of American cinema and American society of the American Indians. To the festival platform and refuses to accept the award instead, and reads to the audience a short message from him explaining the reason for his refusal to receive the award.

The results of this human gesture:

This humanitarian gesture and others contributed to alerting American society to the fact that many people of European origins are still persecuting the indigenous population (American Indians), particularly through the movies.

Which made many filmmakers and actors limit the manifestations of racism in cinema, which began to diminish little by little until the world began to see starring roles played by actors of Indian red origins in American cinema, and this is a very big impact on American society and the world, as we all know the extent of the impact of cinema on Peoples...
